The Holiday Wreath
Wreaths are a staple for the
holidays and are easy to make. So gather the children
or grandchildren, a holiday CD and get ready to immerse
yourself in the holiday spirit.
Materials
• 1 to 2 large bundles
of Douglas fir or a mix combination of greens
• 1 wreath frame (metal or Styrofoam)
• Wire clippers
• Spool of thin green wire
• Garden clippers
1.) Prepare the greens by cutting the limbs into many
6 – 8 inch pieces. Cut about 15 to 20 pieces of
wire.
2.) Begin to make bunches of evergreens. Use the sturdy
pieces from the base of the branches for the back (they
provide support). Gather 4 or 5 pieces of the fancy
greens and place these sections on the front where they
are most visible.
3.) Wiring the wreath: With the thick bunches of greens,
hold them down on the frame and place the wire about
two-thirds of the way from the top and tighten the wire
around the
frame. Place the next bundle in the same direction so
that the second overlaps the first and only about one-third
of the underlying bunch is visible. Continue all the
way around.
4.) The bow: Where the first bunch and the last bunch
meet, add a bow.
Adorn the wreath. Decorate by
wiring pinecones, balls, berries, bells, cookie cutters,
seashells or something to personalize your family creation.
